オライリー系の棚を見るとRESTful Webサービスがあったので立ち読み。
最近話題のキーワードだからと言うことで流行便乗してみる。
クラウドコンピューティングとかWeb2.0とかそんなのと同じく、全く新しい何かの話題ではなく、
ボーッとした昔からある概念を蒸し返しにきたんだなという印象。
基本的にサンプルコードはRubyで書かれている、のでコード追っていく気力が沸くかどうかは好みによる。
「成功したプログラムは簡潔なものだ。成功した大規模なプログラムは簡潔なものを拡張したものだ」をポリシーに、
出来るだけ簡単（≠手抜き）に複雑なことも実装していこうという姿勢。
その辺実にRESTらしい。
ざーっと目を通したところ「クッキーやセッションなんていらねーぜ！認証のみでOKだぜ！」というように読めた。新感覚。
具体的に「こんな凄いテクニックがあるんだぜ！ヒャッホウ！！」とか
「ほら、こうすれば魔法のように負荷分散出来るんだよ！」とかいう内容ではない。
基本をしっかり押さえていこうと書かれているので読んでいて難しすぎるということは無い。
ガンガンWebサービス作成していくぜと言う人は買っても良いのかも知れない。
PHPでなんとなく動けばいいさというダメグラマの私にはちょっと重たい本だった。
妙に盛り上がってるRESTだが、そんなに感嘆するようなものなのかどうか本見ただけではよくわからない。
今度実例を探してみよう。
